Lauren Paterson

Multimedia Journalist

About

I’m Lauren Paterson, a professional reporter and multimedia journalist with a career rooted in public media. My work centers on socioeconomics, culture and regional identity, with a particular focus on rural, tribal, and underserved populations across the Pacific Northwest.

I began my career in radio as a host and producer, later expanding into documentary, digital, and broadcast reporting. I love building connections in small communities and uncovering stories not usually told in mainstream media. I work to prioritize ethical reporting and uplift marginalized voices, particularly when working with populations that are frequently misunderstood or underrepresented.

I have reported for national and regional outlets including NPR, Northwest Public Broadcasting, Oregon Public Broadcasting, KUOW and multiple other stations across the West, including extensive reporting on the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, which brought national attention to a small, close-knit college town during an unprecedented moment of crisis.

In addition to reporting, I have experience collaborating closely with editors, producers, and newsrooms under deadline, contributing enterprise stories as well as breaking news coverage. I bring a strong understanding of audience, social media and editorial standards, and I’m comfortable working independently in the field or as part of a larger reporting team.

I am available for freelance reporting, collaboration, and contract work, and I remain committed to journalism that serves the public interest.
